AS Registered Contractor Strategy Class (Intensive Class)

Course Introduction

This strategy class is designed for interested signatories of general building contractors and minor works contractors registered with the Buildings Department. It specializes in building requirements, building regulations, factory and industrial regulations, and construction engineering supervision. The class is helping students to understand the requirement of the AS interview examination and hence increase the opportunity to pass the examination.

What is a registered contractor AS?

According to the Buildings Department’s Practice Note for Registered Contractors 38 (PNRC 38), every registered contractor must appoint at least one authorized signatory (AS) to act on its behalf for the purposes of the Buildings Ordinance. The assessment of an authorized signatory (AS) includes passing an interview conducted by the Buildings Department, and the applicant must also meet the academic qualifications and work experience required by the Buildings Department。

Requirements for applying to become a registered contractor AS

General contractor:
Educational qualifications: Hold a higher certificate, diploma or equivalent in relevant subjects (architecture, building construction, building survey, civil engineering and structural engineering)
Work experience: 5 years of experience in the construction industry (relevant certificates must be provided)

Minor works contractor :
Education: Hold a diploma, certificate or equivalent in relevant subjects (architecture, building construction, building survey, civil engineering and structural engineering)
Work experience: 3 years of relevant experience in the construction industry

Course Targets

The course is relevant for anyone who intends to become a registered general building contractor and minor works contractor AS.

RGBC AS

Registered general building contractors (RGBC)

RGBC are qualified to carry out any building works and street works other than building services, designated by the Authority as specialized works

Minor Works AS

Minor work

Each level of minor work can be subdivided into 8 types. A registered contractor who carries out minor works must be registered for an equivalent type of minor works

    * Lecturer has been a  AS examiner of the Buildings Department for more than 2 years
